Seems they would rather operate under misinformation and bias, than facts. I sure hope that their NIMBY attitudes get ignored just as the overreactive naysayers did with the Portland Road camp. <br /><br />The managed camps are the best alternative Salem has to actual housing for now. It is not perfect by any means, but managed camps verses having people camping unmanaged in our City parks is far more acceptable. <br /><br />People are so uninformed about what is possible to do right now that it is disheartening. Most people don't know what has been tried and what has worked. <br /><br />I urged the mayor years ago to get out in front of the homeless situation with an educational plan, but the mayor resisted my suggestions. I have found through my Neighborhood Association that once people have adequate information about who the homeless are, what is possible, and what has worked, they become very supportive. In fact staff originally went to the WSNA to discuss the Wallace site and got nothing but support for the plan. <br /><br />But when you leave important things to the newspapers and public gossip, as in this case, you get disaster. And the victims are the unhoused citizens in this community.
