Want to learn more about reducing the carbon footprint from land use and from transportation?
The Oregon Environmental Council is offering a seminar "Cutting Carbs," a Professional Development Workshop for Transportation Professionals and Advocates on Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The Salem Workshop, on the afternoon of December 4th, will feature presentations from Gail Achterman, Chair of the Oregon Transportation Commission; Brian Gregor, Senior Transportation Analyst, Oregon Department of Transportation; Mike McKeever, Executive Eirector of Sacramento Council of Governments.

Are these the workshops where ODOT/ Achterman announce that they are scrapping the Columbia River megabridge and defunding the planning process for the third auto bridge for Salem?
Cuz otherwise they will only document that Oregon transport folks have no plans that have any bearing on reducing vehicle miles travelled and, thus, no plans to reduce emissions from the transport sector.
I don't know the answer, though I'm pretty sure the workshop represents an incrementalist rather than paradigm-shifting approach.
One of the other speakers, Brian Gregor, presented a report to the MPO Greenhouse Gases Taskforce. Clearly he understands the scope of the problem.
I'd encourage you to register and attend. Use any Q & A to make sure the big questions get asked.
