In the minutes from last month, though, is an interesting bit on the proposed TGM grant for the Third Bridge.
From the draft minutes and meeting packet:
It is believed that involving the local neighborhood groups in refining the plan and landscaping would make this a more positive experience for them....[but] it is important that local traffic and bicyclists and pedestrians have facilities that are safe but separate, and it is important not to create problems [that neighborhood groups might create, presumably!] that will not allow treating the facility as an expressway.SKATS Policy Committee meets at noon on Tuesday the 24th at 100 High St. SE, Suite 200, above Bar Andaluz and the former La Capitale.

Thanks for blowing the whistle on this SBOB. When the Salem City Council voted a year ago today, I believe, to approve their Salem Alternative, they were not voting for an "expressway." They were voting against an "expressway." Unfortunately they are being represented by Councilor Clem who has wanted an expressway all along. He has failed to represent the intent of the Salem Alternative at SKATS and on the SRC Oversight Team. The result is a big bait and switch of which Salem residents are totally unaware, unless they read your blog.
