This is was very unexpected for me because of the fact that the SJ Publisher sits on the Board of Directors of the Salem Area Chamber. Some of us have complained about this to Gannett, Inc., since our Chamber has been such a political machine for over a decade. We still think it violates Gannett's ethics policies and that he should resign his seat. However, I heard that he left the room when this "Editorial Board" decision was made. That's a good thing. The only thing that would have made this editorial better would have been for the SJ to call out the Chamber, and T. J. Sullivan in particular, for all the dishonest and misleading statements they continue to spew. They are not done yet. Look for some mendacious direct mail to arrive in your mailbox next week.
