Northwest Hub Now Open! Wednesday through Saturday on Market and Broadway

The fantastic weather this weekend and a nearby errand made for a great time to check in on the newly opened Hub.

Open for Business!
They're open Wednesday through Saturday, 10am - 6pm, on the corner of Market and Broadway, kitty-corner from Salem Cinema.

Recycle Bicycles
You already know they're all about reselling used bikes, and more generally about recycling old bikes and bike parts.

They're also building out a line of fancier restorations!
The Hub also has a fleet of restored and rebranded classic bikes, built with the commuter in mind. These bikes are simple, powder-coated steel framed bikes with high quality wheels and tires. Used parts are utilized where possible, but never to the detriment of durability.
During the visit, a customer purchased one of these, a lovely black commuter with moustache handlebars and white fat tires - it may have been, in fact, the very first sale of one.

Sales like these are important and will in part provide the revenue that underwrites programming like the bike rodeo and give-away they recently held at Caesar Chavez school.

They also plan on classes for bike maintenance, effective city biking, and other things as need arises.

Check 'em out!

Demolition on Winter Street at Shelton Ditch
The afternoon also provided an opportunity to check out the demolition on the Winter Street bridge at Shelton Ditch. It wasn't as interesting as the demolition work on Commercial Street by Boise and Mirror Pond a couple of years ago. (See here for more on the bridge closure and detour. The City has an improved detour plan for people on bike, and it should be signed in the next week or two. Stay tuned for more on that.)
